Institutional Biotech Hub, Department of Biotechnology, Gauhati University, Guwahati in association with Institute of Advanced Studies in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati & Assam Scienc Society, Khanapara, Guwahati is going to organise a National Seminar on Resurgence of Non Conventional Wild Edible Plants of NE India on 17th February, 2020.
Background of the Event:
In India there are almost 15000 species of angiosperm of which 1000 belong to the category of non-conventional fixed plant (Arora and Pandey, 1996). There are many features of non-conventional food plants. Some non-conventional food plants are nutritiously at par or superior to conventional food plants. Resilient and adaptive, many of them are tolerant to adverse weather conditions and have inherent resistance to diseases and pest. Non-conventional food plants are of diverse types. The major categories are- tuber and root corps, leafy vegetables, buds and flowers, fruits, seeds and nuts etc. this workshop is aimed to provide a common platform for faculties, research scholars, traditional dwellers, entrepreneurs, etc working in this broad area to share their knowledge amongst them.
